Job Summary:
As an Surgical Medical Assistant, your primary responsibility is to support healthcare providers in delivering efficient and high-quality medical care to patients in an urgent care setting. You will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth patient flow, providing assistance to healthcare professionals, and maintaining a well-organized and patient-friendly environment.

Responsibilities:

Patient Intake and Triage:

  • Greet and assist patients upon arrival, collecting and updating demographic information.
  • Perform initial assessments and triage patients based on the urgency of their medical needs.

Vital Signs Measurement:

  • Record and monitor patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.

Assistance with Procedures:

  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations, treatments, and minor medical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary equipment and supplies for medical procedures.

Specimen Collection:

  • Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing as per provider's orders.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and documentation of collected samples.

Medical Documentation:

  • Document patient information accurately in electronic health records systems (eCW).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

Patient Education:

  • Provide patients with relevant information regarding their medical conditions, medications, and aftercare instructions.
  • Answer patient inquiries and address concerns to the best of your ability.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Assist with front desk duties, including appointment scheduling, phone inquiries, and insurance verification.
  • Ensure a clean and organized workspace, restocking supplies as needed.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies, following established protocols.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure timely and appropriate patient care.

Infection Control:

  • Adhere to infection control practices and maintain a clean and sanitized environment.
  • Follow established protocols for handling biohazardous materials.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure coordinated and efficient care delivery.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant program required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is advantageous.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Previous experience in an urgent care or similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Proficient in using electronic health record systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
