Description

General Overview: The Career Advisor holds a pivotal role in guiding youth toward informed and meaningful career decisions, empowering them to construct brighter futures and achieve their professional aspirations. This involves the implementation of career exploration activities designed to expose young individuals to diverse career pathways through workshops, guest speakers, and internship opportunities. In this capacity, the Career Advisor empowers youth to explore their interests, cultivate essential career skills, and make informed decisions regarding their future career aspirations.

Duties:

1. Execute a diverse range of career exploration activities, including workshops, seminars, guest speaker sessions, job shadowing experiences, and internship programs.

2. Plan and deliver engaging and informative workshops that provide youth with insights into different industries, professions, and career development strategies. These workshops will equip them with essential knowledge and skills for their future careers.

3. Organize and coordinate presentations by professionals and experts from various fields. These sessions will provide youth with firsthand insights, share personal career journeys, and inspire them about potential career paths.

4. Collaborate with local organizations and employers to develop internship opportunities for youth. You will guide them through the application process, selection criteria, and expectations to ensure a successful experience.

5. Administer career assessments and tools to help youth identify their strengths, interests, and aptitudes. Assist them in aligning these attributes with suitable career choices and development pathways.

6. Offer individualized career counseling sessions to support youth in setting meaningful career goals, creating actionable plans, and making informed career decisions.

7. Build and maintain a comprehensive library of career resources, including educational materials, job search tools, information on educational and training programs, and scholarship opportunities.

8. Continuously monitor and track the progress of youth participating in career exploration activities. Conduct evaluations and surveys to assess the impact of programs and make necessary improvements.

9. Collaborate with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to establish partnerships that expand career exploration opportunities for youth.

10. Documentation: records of all career exploration activities, participant data, and program outcomes. Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation for reporting and evaluation purposes.

11. Coordinate and Facilitate entrepreneurship programs for youth. (ie. Young CEO)

12. Complete any other duties as assigned by the Student Success Coordinator.

Requirements

 Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate degree in education, Counseling, Career Development, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in career advising, counseling, or education, with a focus on youth career development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various career pathways, industries, and current workforce trends.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, and motivate youth.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and the capacity to connect with and inspire young individuals in their career journeys.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources, along with an understanding of the importance of career development in youth.
  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to build productive partnerships and relationships with local organizations and businesses.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate workshops, events, and career exploration activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to converse, read and write Spanish and English (preferred).
  • Advanced computer skills, Microsoft office, internet, and e-mail.
  • Ability to secure clearance for PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, FBI, and National Sex Offenders Clearance (required).
  • Possess or ability to secure a Driver’s License and insurance (preferred).
  • Ability to secure health clearances every two years and TB once (required).
  • Proficiency in Excel, Powe point and Microsoft Office, Salesforce.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English or another universal language.
