Supply Chain Analyst - Overview and Responsibilities

The Supply Chain Analyst works to ensure all items assigned; materials, components, parts, general supplies, are ordered accurately and timely by verifying requirements, preparing, and placing purchase orders, validating supplier acknowledgments and ship dates are timely to meet production schedules and operational requirements. The Supply Chain Analyst will also maintain inventory, ordering, and supplying necessary items while maintaining accurate records of all procurements. This will include interaction with production, quality, engineering, purchasing, inventory, shipping and receiving teams.

  • Assists in all administrative functions to support sourcing, purchasing and inventory functions.
  • Manage purchase order acknowledgments while tracking orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintain Supplier Management Key Performance Indicators.
  • Follow-up with suppliers as needed to confirm or change orders.
  • Update ERP system with order details/data (dates, vendors, quantities, pricing).
  • Complete and maintain required paperwork, records, documentation.
  • Collaborates with team members and communicates relevant information to department leaders.
  • Timely recording of inventory transfers between the warehouse and production departments and providing general inventory control.
  • Identify reasons for differences between book and physical inventories and design changes to systems and procedures to prevent the differences from occurring again. These changes will be made through consultation with materials management and accounting.
  • Train production and warehouse personnel on proper handling of material transfers in the system and on the floor.
  • In conjunction with accounting, production, and warehouse personnel to design appropriate internal controls and policies relative to inventory control. Educate and enforce established inventory policies and procedures across the plant.
  • Plan and coordinate with the accounting group the physical counts of inventory, using cycle counts and complete physical counts as needed.
  • Maintains consistent stock of inventory, ordering new stock up to pre-authorized limit as inventory dwindles. 
  • Establishes and maintains backup source for high-demand items.
  • Assesses inventory reports and order patterns to identify items in need of automatic, recurring delivery.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with suppliers.
  • Maintains accurate daily records of goods received and shipments made.
  • Manages and maintains purchasing and inventory system; facilitates upgrades to related database and/or software under the direction of the department leader.
  • Conducts frequent spot and partial audits of physical inventory.
  • Daily review and optimization of purchase orders and supplier ship dates considering operational and material changes along with business requirement/need.
  • Daily and weekly review of production schedule and parts ordering signals to ensure proper action is being taken to ensure supply of finished units to the customer.
  • Focus areas include Health, Safety and Environment, inventory/cash management and customer metric improvements (On Time in Full, Lead Time and Order Acknowledgement).
  • Interacts cross functionally with sales, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality teams to facilitate supply chain processes.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of purchasing, inventory, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing business working in a supply, demand, inventory management or related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, finance, engineering, or related areas.
  • Change management experience a plus.
  • Proven track record of delivering results and working in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Proficient in Excel (including pivot table use, lookup, and macros), PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience working on metrics based continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate throughout the organization across multiple levels and departments including but not limited to supply chain, manufacturing, sales, quality, engineering, and finance.
  • Team player - work cross functionally.
  • Good time management skills, ability to handle several different projects at the same time.
  • Certified in APICS CPIM/CSCP.
  • ERP experience a plus.
