The position requires thermodynamic design and analysis of nuclear reactors, power conversion systems, and other supporting systems. The position also requires interaction with other disciplines such as neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, radiation shielding, instrumentation & controls, electrical, and other engineering disciplines to understand the interfaces, dependencies, and influence of those subsystems on the plant’s thermodynamic behavior and performance.Responsibilities

  • Perform system-level thermodynamic analyses and process design using system-level simulation codes to support design iterations of X-energy developed reactors and supporting subsystems.
  • Develop, test, verify, and validate thermodynamics models to support design and analysis which will form part of the reactor licensing basis (e.g., steady state and transient conditions, design basis events, anomalies, etc.)
  • Develop verification and validation (V&V) plans for thermodynamics codes and custom analysis tools developed by X-energy, in accordance with NQA-1 requirements.
  • Support the sizing and analysis of components including heat exchangers, pumps, circulators, and
  • turbomachinery.

    • System Engineers regarding functions and requirements on systems, structures, and components.
    • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysts, regarding component thermal and flow characterization.
    • Mechanical designers, regarding component sizing and stresses.
    • Neutronic analysts, regarding reactor heat generation and reactivity control characteristics.
    • Radiation shielding engineers who characterize energy deposition and thermal characteristics.
    • Electrical engineers, regarding control systems design.
  • Manage the configuration of models and simulations to ensure traceability through a version control system (e.g., Gitlab)
  • Perform all work under a quality assurance program that conforms to nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Write and critically review technical reports.
