Rowing Coach

Wyoming Seminary seeks a Rowing Coach for Grades 9 through postgraduate student-athletes, starting immediately. The coach will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to all facets of the rowing program in advancing the mission of Wyoming Seminary and the Athletic Department. The coach will report directly to the Associate Director of Athletics and the Athletic Department. This is a part-time position in itself but can be paired with other campus openings if opportunities arise.

Wyoming Seminary's rowing program is a member of the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA), competing in sculling events at scholastic regattas in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Specific areas of responsibility include on- and off-water rowing-specific coaching, recruitment, student-athlete development, program administration, and program advancement. All activities shall be conducted within the policies and resource framework of Wyoming Seminary, the Athletic Department, and National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules regattas with the Athletic Department
  • Partners with the Admission Office to recruit mission-appropriate applicants
  • Oversees the development and progress of each student-athlete
  • Communicates regularly and clearly with parents about program expectations, culture, practice schedules, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Athletics and Athletic Department colleagues, Upper and Lower School faculty and staff, and the broader school community
  • Oversees school rowing equipment and assists in maintaining club facilities and equipment (boats, oars, rowing machines, launches, trailer)
  • Potential for teaching on a part-time basis

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated coaching experience with adolescents in this age group
  • A passion for athletic competition and the ability to motivate and inspire athletes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
  • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children — must be fun, energetic, creative, flexible, and patient

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to drive a boat trailer (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to make minor-moderate boat repairs (or willingness to learn)
