We are seeking 4 secondary certified teachers (Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science) who are passionate about providing an alternative educational experience in grades 7-12. Candidates should be grounded in a firm belief that all students can and will learn.
What We Value:
Belonging, Diversity and Inclusion
Educational Excellence
Continuous Improvement
Better Together
Wyoming Wolves: Growing Community. Empowering Students. Impacting Futures.
Background Information:
Wyoming Public Schools will launch an alternative education program at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The program will be designed for students in grades 7-12 and will be housed in a portion of the current Wyoming Junior High School building, located west and adjacent to the new Wyoming Junior High School building. Three guiding principles help articulate a vision for our program: (1) community-centered, (2) career-focused, and (3) competency-based.
This program is being designed for learners who need a different educational experience for a variety of reasons (attendance, behaviors, academics, life circumstance, etc).
In this role:
As noted above, three guiding principles help articulate our vision for this program. At the core of our vision is a program that is community-centered. We envision a learner experience that will support students’ exploration of their passions and interests by engaging with local organizations, businesses, and community projects. In doing so, students will have authentic opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge in a practical, community-oriented context. Career-focused is another guiding principle for our program. We aim to prepare students for the workforce with practical skills, knowledge, and experiences that are aligned to their educational development plan (EDP). Last but not least, a competency-based design is a guiding principle for our program. We value what students know and can do. And this value extends beyond academic competencies to include skills for future success and as well as learner dispositions. These skills and dispositions will derive directly from our Wyoming Public Schools Profile of a Graduate (which is currently in development).
Important decisions lie ahead for this program and we value our future staff members' involvement and voice in the planning process (including the selection of courseware). For current WPS staff members who may be interested in serving in this capacity, please reach out to Mike Burde (burdem@wyomingps.org) with any additional questions. It is important to know that this program may use an alternative schedule model; however, the instructional and preparation time will be in alignment with the WEA labor agreement.
