Wyoming Horse Racing is Hiring an Accounting Supervisor Near Cheyenne, WY

The Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for supervision over the Cheyenne accounting office, maintaining all records used to perform required financial procedures, including tax preparation and profit-and-loss analysis as well as serving as an intermediary between WHR and the horsemen (such as owners, jockeys, and trainers). Handles all financial activities for authorized horsemen who own personal accounts at WHR, including managing credit of winnings and debit of fees and expenses to and from accounts.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Daily supervision of Corporate Office accounting staff.
  • Performs daily audit of cage, HHR Terminals, and non-gaming revenue areas.
  • Investigates and reports discrepancies determined through audit process to the Director of Finance.
  • Prepares information and reports for the Director of Finance in a manner to ensure compliance with Gaming commission and company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records and files pertaining to daily audits of areas of responsibility.
  • Anticipates ongoing changes, problems, and opportunities in order to maintain effective systems and procedures.
  • Assists Director of Finance on various special projects.
  • Assists Director of Finance in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist Director of Finance working with External Auditors.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, completing follow-up as assigned.
  • Performs work regularly and predictably.
  • Perform some AML reporting.
  • Responsible for filing 1099’s annually for live racing
  • Provides, receives, and files all required documentation such as ID, Authorize Agents/Owner forms, tax forms, and other forms.
  • Travel required during horse racing season.
  • Maintains up-to-date horsemen information in database.
  • Performs research for accounts with returned mail.
  • Posts deposits and withdrawals to and from horsemen accounts.
  • Provides quality customer service for horsemen in person, as well as on the phone.
  • Processes a high volume of check disbursements on a weekly basis according to policies and procedures.
  • Researches and verifies account information as needed.
  • Processes mailings to horsemen.
  • Processes posting of races, horse claims, arranging debiting, and crediting from buyer to seller accounts.
  • Mails account statements at the end of every meet.
  • Processes jockey payroll once a week.
  • Processes Owner and Trainer checks when requested.
  • Posts Stake accounts charging owners’ accounts nomination fees.
  • Performs daily race convert ensuring the distribution of purses are deposited to the proper owners’ account.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel as well as other accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of InCompass Horsemen’s Bookkeeping Online System preferred.
  • Proficient with 10-Key calculator.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and audit functions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Customer service orientation and negotiation skills.
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration. Commensurate level of education and experience will be considered.
  • 3 years’ accounting experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience with spreadsheets, data entry and proprietary software.
  • Experience with Konami and Synkros preferred.
  • Horse Racing Bookkeeping preferred.
  • 2 years of gaming experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a state gaming license is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving history.
