Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the person in this position performs entry level work by providing comprehensive disease intervention services in a variety of settings. The Disease Intervention Specialist Trainee will investigate assigned STD and STD/HIV co-infected cases. Investigation includes locating, interviewing, re-interviewing index partner, eliciting sexual and needle sharing contacts to notify of exposure, offer HIV testing, and ensure treatment.
The trainee will be expected to:
Write results of investigation, in a timely manner, in reports that are submitted to the Disease Intervention Specialist Supervisor; review patient records to determine appropriate STD treatment was administered and recommend modifications to providers for cases they are assigned; maintain regular contact with private providers, laboratory personnel, and health departments to improve testing; and provide HIV Rapid testing, case reporting, and obtain information on treated cases or diagnostic and or treatment techniques.
Assist in other jurisdictions when there are vacancies or higher morbidity.
Provide technical assistance and consultation to local health departments and other medical professionals to ensure consistent performance throughout their assigned region.
Attend and participate in community planning events, HIV/AIDS testing events, and current conferences surrounding advanced STD intervention and treatment techniques.
Attend one conference and one training a year for additional educational opportunities and disseminates the information upon completion for additional guidance for DSH.
Position will serve the counties of Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Taylor, Harrison, Lewis, Barbour, Tucker, Gilmer, Upshur, Randolph, Braxton, and Webster. A valid driver's license and travel within assigned area is required.
Other duties as assigned. Office location is based on candidates county of residence.
This is an alternate posting to Disease Intervention Specialist 1; only one position will be filled.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in STD/HIV control, nursing, or social services and/or public health case management and investigation may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required training.
Special Requirement: A valid driver's license and the availability of an automobile is required.
Other Information
Full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience as an investigator in a Human Services/Behavioral Services organization may substitute for education or experience.
