WV Department of Agriculture is Hiring an EQUIPMENT OPERATOR Near Fairplain, WV

Job Title: Equipment Operator
Division:  Executive
Headquarters: Food Distribution, Fairplain, WV
FLSA Status:  Non-exempt
Nature of Work:
The Equipment Operator pulls orders from inventory commodities identified on load sheets and loads them on truck for distribution.
Examples of Work:
  • Receive ‘load sheets’ to facilitate pulling inventory for delivery.
  • Load and unload trucks/trailers using forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Ensure correct quantity of commodities are loaded onto trucks for deliveries.
  • Verify quantities of commodities for shipments received.
  • Arrange and rotate stock in warehouse to ensure the “first in, first out” principle is followed.
  • Perform general maintenance of warehouse equipment and facility.
  • Share responsibilities with other staff for maintaining the cleanliness of work area which includes the warehouse and freezers, and common areas including the men’s restrooms as well as the outdoor areas of the facility.
  • Operate light vehicles such as pick-up truck or van as necessary.
  • Participate in monthly inventory of commodities.
  • Summertime duties are to maintain the outdoor premises of the facility, mow, weed eat, power wash, etc.
  • Pull orders in the dry storage area as well as in the cooler (38*F) and the freezers (-10*F). Freezer suits are provided.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
General warehouse setting: bending, stooping, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, operating loading equipment, storing and retrieving food from freezers, and working hours outside the normal schedule if needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general warehouse principles; i.e. stock rotation, and first in/first out.
  • Skilled in fork-lift operation and general maintenance.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and implement an inventory pull sheet.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to keep accurate account of commodity shipments received and pulled from inventory for deliveries.
  • Ability to safely load trucks to limit damaged product and ensure driver safety.
Qualifications:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: One year of full-time paid employment in a distribution warehouse environment preferred.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
