WSP USA is Hiring a Senior Signal Engineer Near N BROADWAY,

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Senior Signal Engineer for our one of our Midwest offices which includes the following: Illinois offices, Missouri offices, or our Indiana offices

Your Impact

  • Detailed design of signal systems, both plans and specifications
  • Vital and non-vital processor programming
  • Develop and review designs and technical specifications
  • Assists Project Managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings
  • Review shop drawings, record changes and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required
  • Experience with the following Train Control Systems:
  • Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), Positive Train Control (PTC), Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Operation (ATO), Solid State Interlocking (SSI), Enhanced Automatic Train Control (EATC), Cab Signaling and/or conventional signaling systems
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BSCEE / Electrical Engineering Degree or related field or 12 years of experience in the design, installation and operation of train control systems
  • Minimum 10 years of experience of the design, construction, testing and commissioning of Train Control Systems and Equipment with a Transit Authority, or Signaling Manufacturer
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Experience in Train Control System Design Management, Construction Management and/or Project Management
  • Advanced proficiency with transit and rail engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of FRA, FTA, CPUC, AREMA, and other rail regulatory standards and procedures, codes, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate
  • Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRail), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred or ability to get a PE License in 6 months.
  • Experience with train control systems for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail, Mass Transit and High-Speed Rail Projects.
