WSP Global is Hiring an Early Career Civil Engineering Near Tampa, FL

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer for the Tampa, Florida office. This individual would be involved in projects with our US Mine Waste Team and be a part of a growing organization that is uniquely positioned to solve our client’s most challenging projects. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects. 

Your Impact

  • Working within our Mine Waste team on civil and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry
  • Performing engineering tasks such as:
    • Geotechnical field investigations
    • Site and material characterization
    • Design of facilities including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations
    • Slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and deformation analyses to support facility designs.
  • Surface water management analysis and facility designs
  • Preparing technical reports that document field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and
    facility designs
  • Assisting with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications,
    project schedules, and cost estimates
  • Performing domestic and international field assignments, such as geotechnical investigations and
    construction monitoring
  • Working with and leading multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Supporting technical proposals and design work package in response to client needs
  • Managing the work of entry-level engineers
  • Comply with company and client safety guidelines and site-specific procedures
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. 
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. 
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental or geotechnical engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have relevant experience/course work in related to
    • Geotechnical field investigations,
    • Site and material characterization,
    • Design of facilities including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations,
    • Slope stability analysis,
    • Seepage modeling,
    • Deformation analyses to support facility designs, and
    • Surface water management analysis
    • Water balance calculations
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific analysis and design software (i.e., GIS, SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and on teams. 
  • Comfortable working in remote settings 
  • Ability and willingness to travel. 
  • Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, or an equivalent field of study
