This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Operations Manager for our Long Island City, NY office.
Be involved in projects with our Mobility Operations Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Be responsible for the operation, management and administration of the operations center
  • Keep the NYSDOT Joint Transportation Management Center (JTMC) Manager informed daily of all matters affecting the operation of the operations center
  • Be on call 24/7/365 for emergency and/or operational problems
  • Receive external requests for ITS resources and coordinate efforts with the Construction Coordination staff
  • Build strong and effective bonds between the public and private partners
  • Assist the Project Manager in keeping NYSDOT informed of the status of current efforts and all problems for which their assistance is required
  • Gather extraordinary incidents and resource logs for the monthly report sent to NYSDOT
  • Create monthly summary of incidents culled from various daily summaries
  • Provide assistance and disseminate pertinent information to the entire staff to ensure that active incidents are handled properly
  • Be responsible for messages being placed on variable message signs (VMS) for all active incidents; have input on all other preplanned VMS messages emanating from NYSDOT/construction/other agency coordination meetings
  • Be responsible for organizing training of the JTMC personnel
  • Be responsible for responding to personnel issues 
  • Provide input on overall performance of the JTMC personnel to WSP management
  • Ensure that the database of past incidents is properly managed
  • Coordinate with the System Administrator for equipment installations requested by NYSDOT or other agencies
  • Coordinate with Field Technicians for systems maintenance reporting procedures including equipment problem tickets
  • Update the operating protocols, to include new policies, directives and guidelines given; this shall include revised instructions for the operators covering all the basic events to which the JTMC responds, including responses to hardware failures; responses to roadway incidents; operating the JTMC in response to events; and related actions
  • Routinely exchange of information with TRANSCOM, neighboring TMCs and the Statewide Transportation Information Coordination Center (STICC)
  • Coordinate visits and tours of the JTMC with the general public, community organizations, government officials and regional leaders

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a TMC type facility that operates a minimum of 50 instrumental lane miles
  • Scheduling, administration, performance evaluation, hiring, employee relations, problems solving and leadership
  • Supervision of a minimum of 15 employees
  • Valid Drivers’ License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data analytics including economic evaluation, system evaluation and predictability and performance modeling
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with others in a team environment 
  • Bachelors’ degree in a relevant field with at least 1 year of qualifying work experience

All candidates must successfully pass a NYSP Criminal History Background Check.

Expected Salary: $71,700 - $122,980

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
