YOUR ROLE IN A NUTSHELL:

The purpose of the Regional Assistant Accountant role is to assist the Director of Risk, Control and Regional Finance and the Regional Finance Manager/s reviewing the control environment ensuring WPP Operating companies comply with controls and group policies. The role works under the guidance of and provides support and assistance to the Director of Risk, Control and Regional Finance and Regional Finance Manager/s. The role is also responsible for engaging and partnering closely with key stakeholders across the business and within Finance on a daily basis.

WHAT YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME DOING:In order for our business to work, you will be required to spend time on certain areas of the business. Your key responsibilities are as follows: 

External Reporting:

  • Assisting in the preparation of the consolidated finance statements for the group

Management Reporting:

  • Performing reconciliations between ERPs
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with operating company finance team members
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly management reports and budget/forecast reports
  • Maintaining distribution list and list of operating entities within the group
  • Attend and prepare minutes of finance meetings for yearly budget/forecast meetings and quarterly regional compliance

Regional Controls:

  • Assist the Director of Risk, Control and Regional Finance and Regional Finance Manager/s reviewing the control environment ensuring WPP AUNZ Operating companies comply with controls and group policies
  • The role is also responsible for engaging and partnering closely with key stakeholders across the business and within Finance on a daily basis
  • Performing reviews of controls including expensive reviews and other account reviews
  • Ensure regional controls are completed, including undertaking risk assessment, communicate with stakeholders on risk and risk mitigation factors
  • Ensure compliance with controls and group policies
  • Adherence to the Financial Accounting and Reporting function in accordance to Sarbanes & Oxley Control processes (SOX)

Consolidation:

  • Ensuring the balance sheet accounts in the ERP are accurately mapped into BFC

Internal/External Audits:

  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements

Team Membership 

  • Demonstrate and encourage a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration 
  • Participate in regular performance conversations
  • Attend team and other meetings
  • Practice courteous assertiveness with all interactions 
  • Demonstrate the behaviours expected from the team and customers
  • Demonstrate the WPP AUNZ Personal Attributes
  • Provide strong emphasis on providing ‘needs based’ customer service
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks
  • Escalate matters to management as appropriate 

Transforming our processes: 

  • Identify and communicate process improvement opportunities and opportunities for automation of processes 
  • Write process documentation and/or provide feedback and assistance with documentation 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Tertiary education (and ideally working toward completing CPA/CA qualification) 
  • Experience in one of the Big 4 Accounting firms in an auditing role would be highly regarded 
  • Ideally 1 years' experience in similar role/s with responsibilities managing internal and external stakeholders, ideally having experience in Media / creative / digital industries 
  • Technology skills including in MS Excel, database applications and ERP systems 
  • Able to manage and build relationships both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills - articulate
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability and experience in working with and meeting key performance targets
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt in changing environment
