Position Title: Structural Engineer

Purpose:

Works independently completing a wide variety of assignments through the application of advanced engineering theories, techniques, and practices. Has knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices for the control, development, and application of deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural engineering services such as:
    • identify and report changes to project scope;
    • assist with the preparation of proposals, estimates, budgets and schedules;
    • provide assistance during procurement, construction and commissioning activities. For example, write requisitions, conduct technical bid evaluations and write purchase orders;
    • contribute to appropriate studies, analyses and recommend actions;
    • assist with the preparation of detailed designs and drawings, specifications, data, calculations and reports.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in structural engineering.
  • Communicate effectively with the structural engineering team and project stakeholders, including the Customer.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.
  • Deliver structural engineering services that meet Worley, its customers and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.

Supervision Received :

  • Works with self-initiated interaction with supervisor and self-initiated technical guidance. Broad duties assigned at beginning of projects. Work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities, and critical areas that impinge on work of other units. Work is reviewed to ensure policy conformity and soundness of approach. Informed guidance is available.

HSE Capability :

  • Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements. Drive Safe and Sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of SEAL. Role-model a commitment to personal well-being and a pro-active approach to continuously improving health, safety and environmental performance.

  •  Builds appropriate, constructive, and effective business relationships throughout the organization; uses diplomacy and tact; is approachable; communicates clearly, accurately, and consistently both verbally and in written matters. Employs the principles of active listening and encourages feedback from others.

  • Teamwork: Enjoys working in a small high calibre team with high visibility to senior stakeholders. Able to work and liaise with multiple teams and stakeholders, able to prioritise workloads and help other team members to achieve team goal

  • Deals with new concepts and complexity comfortably. Examines problems carefully and thoroughly and understands their interdependencies. Can pull information and ideas from many sources and see the importance of many factors.

What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience: 

  • Sound technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.
  • A working knowledge of the fundamental requirements of structural engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • A working knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory specifications.
  • Competent use of structural engineering specific software and relevant software such as MS Office Suite and STAAD PRO.
  • Engineering experience in mining or heavy industry. Brown field project experience is preferred,

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering majoring in Civil/Structural Engineering. Must be a member with Professional Engineers of Ontario or be eligible to obtain membership in a short period.
