The People & Culture division is seeking an experienced Workforce Development Specialist to play a key role within the Workforce Development Team. The Workforce Development team exists to support the professional development of all UW-IT staff and will oversee a comprehensive competency-based framework that is aligned with UW-IT's strategic plan, mission, and organizational values with a focus on preparing UW-IT to meet its challenges now and in the future.

This position requires an experienced staff development professional with an understanding of the technical complexity of the Information Technology (IT) industry. They will oversee programs that support leadership development, technical skills development, training management, job family analysis, and competency modeling. The incumbent will work cross-functionally with other People & Culture colleagues to conduct research and data analysis that inform organization-wide skill deficiency reports. They will make recommendations that inform decisions related to increasing technical competency that increases organizational capability.

In order to execute IT strategy, UW-IT needs exceptional staff. This position will help create staff development opportunities which will support the retention and engagement of UW-IT staff in a region that is incredibly competitive for IT workers. They will help drive alignment and clarity, to ensure staff have the skills to support the top priority objectives of the University. Major IT system implementations, evolving customer expectations & demands, and the increasing complexity in the technology industry are all examples for why this position is vital to ensure UW-IT focuses on architecting a culture that supports and enables employee development, connection and growth. Offering staff development programs and services are crucial for enabling the best IT talent to be attracted to and retained by the organization. The success of our continuous transformative change is dependent upon having an experienced professional to support our workforce development efforts.

The Workforce Development (WFD) Specialist will focus on developing and executing a variety of organizational development programs and initiatives. The WFD Specialist will be a key contributor and advisor, leveraging their professional knowledge and experience to provide technical guidance regarding job analysis and competency modeling, working to continuously assess individual, team and organization-wide skill gaps. They will recommend mitigation strategies to improve technical, administrative, and leadership skills that will help prepare UW-IT staff for the challenges we face now and in the future.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Human Resources, Organizational Development or I/O Psychology, or related field or experience.

Five to six years' experience contributing to organizational structural design, research, organization-wide job analysis, and/or competency-modeling projects.

Knowledge of human resources business processes.

Experience facilitating focus groups, listening sessions, conducting interviews, administrating surveys, and delivering training.

Experience consulting with organizational leadership at strategic, operational, and tactical levels.

Demonstrated program management skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and to work with minimal supervision in a fluid and dynamic environment with shifting deadlines and priorities.

Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.

Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality and diplomacy.

Strong knowledge and experience using multiple technology applications including Microsoft Suite tools and Google Applications.

DESIRED:

Experience leading research, organization-wide job analysis, and/or competency-modeling projects.

Experience leading workforce development and training programs.

Experience as a career coach.

Experience working in information technology (IT) organizations.

Experience working in higher education organizations.

Experienced in communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.

Experience with tools such as Confluence Wiki, WordPress, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Jira, Tableau or similar.

Ability to understand and adapt as necessary to diverse team dynamics to successfully contribute to program outcomes.

Master's or Doctoral Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Organizational Leadership, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Data Science or similar.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

A satisfactory criminal history verification outcome may be required prior to hire.

This position is eligible for hybrid work, with a minimum of two days in the office weekly.
