Workshops for Warriors is Hiring an Advanced 5-axis CNC Machining Instructor Near San Diego, CA

Workshops for Warriors is a non-profit school and our mission is to provide quality training, accredited STEM educational programs, and opportunities to earn third-party nationally recognized credentials to enable veterans, transitioning service members, and other students to be successfully trained and placed in their chosen advanced manufacturing career field. WFW was started in 2008, by its CEO Hernan Luis y Prado (a US Navy Officer and combat veteran). Since its inception, 1,125 veterans have graduated into high-paying, in-demand jobs in California and across the United States. Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Advanced 5-axis CNC Instructor is training students in person and on-site to learn in a safe and productive environment. Organizing supplies and resources for lectures and presentations. Delivering personalized instruction to each student by demonstrating a high level of proficiency in multi-axis machining and encouraging interactive learning. Planning and implementing educational activities and events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Instruct and monitor students in safe multi-axis machining using industry best practices
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Adapt teaching methods & instructional materials to meet students' varying needs.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
  • Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
  • Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Ensure classrooms and labs are well maintained, oversee the upkeep of equipment and supplies, enforce daily and weekly cleaning schedules, identify and schedule repairs, and oversee renovation projects, waste reduction improvements, and safety inspections.
  • Complete a weekly supply inventory of school consumables required by the course curriculum and syllabus.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Conduct instructional evaluations for teaching assistants.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and a clean, well-kept school uniform at all times.
  • Perform other classroom and lab duties as required by the Lead Instructor of Machining.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree and teaching certification.
  • 7 years of industry experience as an Instructor in 4 and 5 Axis CNC Milling and/or CNC Lathe is required.
  • Current certifications in all areas of instruction
  • Must have at least seven years of experience using and or teaching 3/4/5 axis machining on FANUC-based machines or Haas. 
  • Must be able to program in Mastercam
  • Experience on the following a plus:
    • PC-DMIS metrology software and/or use of Hexagon Metrology equipment (Romer Arms/CMM/Optical)
    •  Stratasys 3D Printers
    •  CALYPSO: Zeiss CMMs
    •  FANUC Robots
  •  Experience in teaching basic CNC Machining: CNC Lathe, CNC Mill.

Important Notes

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position (40 hours/week).

Pay: The pay range for this California-based position is $75,000-$125,000 annually. The actual compensation offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, and experience. Benefits and Perks: Workshops for Warriors makes available comprehensive benefits after 30 days of employment. Dress code: The position is provided with a WFW uniform and laundry service.

Supervisory: Supervises students and Teaching Assistants within the CNC Machining Program

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 35-75lb. Applications may include but are not limited to repetitive work using a computer keyboard, mouse and headphones while sitting and/or standing at an assigned work desk area.

Employee may have additional environmental hazards such as: chemical, electrical, flammable, and mechanical.
