Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County is Hiring an Apprentice Service Worker Near Arlington, TX

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction assists in the repair and adjustments of water meters in varying sizes and serves as back up for the Meter Services Worker in the field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to assist in the repair, replacement or adjustment of large meters (3" to 10" in size) and medium size meters (1 1/2" to 2" in size).
2. Ability to assist in performance of meter accuracy testing, pressure/flow testing, installation or replacement of meter vaults.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
3. Ability to serve as backup for Meter Service Worker, turning on water service for new customers, turning off closed or delinquent accounts and recording meter readings for final billings.
4. Ability to respond to emergency calls for assistance; investigate customer complaints related to pressure/flow, leaks or high consumption.
5. Ability to perform scheduled change-outs of aged or malfunctioning meters; repair reported defects and clear impediments at the metering site.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of Water Utilities operations; Policies, Procedures, Ordinances.
  • Knowledge of specifications for all size meters and metering sites, metering functions and related terminology.
  • Skill in the maintenance of water meters and service connections.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Ability to respond on a scheduled on-call basis and to work extended periods of time under imposed emergency assignments.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations accurately.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces under extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to PC, calculator, tools, jack hammer, porta-power winch and 2-way radio.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, data entry, dragging, driving, holding, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, seeing, sitting, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, walking and writing.
  • Ability to received detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Incumbent is subject to mechanical, electrical, explosive, and radiation hazards.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED, plus 6 months experience in the field of labor or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Successful completion of pre-employment testing which includes:
* Criminal Background
* Drug and Alcohol Testing
* Physical Health Evaluation
* Motor Vehicle Check
