OFFICIAL TITLE: Audiovisual Equipment Technician I
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assistant Director for Multimedia Services
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student employees as directed

General Statement of Duties: The Audiovisual Equipment Technician I works as part of a team to ensure the efficient operation of campus audiovisual equipment in both academic and administrative settings. Under the direction of IT, the incumbent will collaborate with university constituents to support university functions. They will be responsible for user support, diagnosis, repair, scheduling repair, and making new equipment recommendations for audiovisual equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • (E) Installs, updates, and removes audiovisual equipment on campus.
  • (E) Supports equipment needs throughout campus and responds to help desk tickets as they relate to media services in both the academic and administrative settings, in a timely fashion.
  • (E) Performs and/or schedules preventative maintenance, makes repairs for university-owned or leased equipment, and makes recommendations for new/replacement equipment.
  • (E) Assists academic and administrative departments with production of digital audio and visual materials for classroom, campus, web or public media use or distribution.
  • (E) Offers technical advice and instruction on matters such as the use and maintenance of equipment, and the methods for making audiovisual presentations or productions.
  • (E) Maintains inventory of all equipment and supplies.
  • Supervises student employees as directed.
  • (E) Works nights and/or weekends for major projects as necessary.
  • (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  • (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • Must have (A) at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical experience in the repair and/or maintenance of audiovisual equipment including projectors, tape recorders, videotape devices, phonographic equipment, etc. or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.*

II. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade or technical school above the high school level with a major in electronics or electricity may be substituted for the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of audiovisual equipment such as still projectors, motion picture projectors, television and phonographic equipment.
  • Knowledge of the materials and supplies used in audiovisual work.
  • Knowledge of the principles of basic electronics as applied to audiovisual equipment.
  • Knowledge of calibration and or adjustment techniques used in audiovisual work.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand-held power tools such as power drills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of electricity as applied to audiovisual equipment.
  • Skill in the use of precision measuring instruments used in electronics work.
  • Ability to conduct training and instruction, giving oral and written instruction in a precise and understandable manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as equipment operating manuals, specifications and layouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret such documents as schematics, drawings and plans.
  • Ability to understand, explain and apply the policies, procedures, specifications, standards and guidelines governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to prepare general reports.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends to assist with major projects.
  • Ability to provide high level customer service to university faculty, staff, and other constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years of experience working with audiovisual equipment in a professional setting; educational environment a plus.
  • Experience installing, repairing, and using lighting, sound, videotaping, computer/LCD, and other similar equipment.
  • Experience scheduling and providing preventative maintenance for audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to make recommendations for new and upgraded products and services.

This is a grade 14, non-exempt, full-time (37.5 hours/week), benefited AFSCME position. The bi-weekly salary is $1,874.61 (annual salary is $48,739.86).

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:00pm- 9:00pm. Days off Saturday and Sunday.
