Job Title: Upper School Science Teacher (1 position available)
FLSA Status: Professional Exempt
Reports to: Head of Middle/Upper School
Department: Faculty
Prepared Date: May 2024

SUMMARY

At Worcester Prep, an Upper School Science Teacher assumes responsibility for providing learning experiences in science and supervision of students in a supportive and positive college preparatory climate which develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed expectations in the classroom. Achieving academic excellence requires the teacher to work collaboratively with other members of the school faculty, staff, and with parents.

DUTIES

  • Administers and develops Science specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving his/her success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, laboratories, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Plans a balanced curriculum and organizes daily class time so that preparation and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Engages students in productive experiential learning opportunities in the laboratory.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction as needed in order to support each student within the curriculum.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment at all times.
  • Marks and evaluates each student’s growth, assesses each individual’s contribution to the class.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. lesson plans, grades, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, etc.)
  • Maintains professional competence through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintains an attractive, stimulating learning environment.
  • Participates in in-service workshops, meetings, sessions and all other defined activities, as well as other areas of school life.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with a major in a science field.
  • Capability of instructing Upper School science as well as successful teaching experience in a classroom environment. Teaching experience including AP science courses is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills along with the ability to prioritize and multi-task situations with equal priority.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time while conducting classes. The employee must be able to speak in audible tones so that students may understand instructions clearly.
