JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Lead the Career Development Center's (CDC) outcomes, assessment and inclusion efforts, coordinate annual First Destination outcomes data collection and reporting, tracking and reporting other data on use of services and student feedback, and support CDC's application of equitable and inclusive best practices. Provide career advising services for degree-seeking students and alumni, develop and facilitate career education programs, and partner with colleagues across campus to enhance the career and professional development of all students.

JOB DESCRIPTION
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide career advising to degree-seeking students and alumni on a range of topics including career decision making, job searching, interviewing, offer negotiation, graduate school and related career issues.
  • Train students on the effective use of technology and online resources for their career exploration, decision-making, and search processes.
  • Design and facilitate innovative workshops, seminars and programs on career related topics for student groups, departments, and other audiences.
  • Collaborate with Talent & Inclusion, Multicultural Affairs, and Division of Student Affairs to align the CDC with University-wide initiatives for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • As part of the annual assessment strategy, develop and implement plan to reach underrepresented students, understand changing needs, and connect with CDC resources.
  • Coordinate the CDC's data collection and reporting efforts as they pertain to use of services, satisfaction, and learning outcomes of students and alumni and provide required CDC data for Division of Student Affairs dashboard and annual report.
  • Manage First Destination career outcomes data collection and reporting, including stewardship of data from all sources, phone campaign, special events, commencement tickets survey, data entry, and collaboration with Institutional Research on input of data into tableau.
  • Respond to First Destination career outcomes data requests from departments, faculty and administrators as needed.
  • Supervise a Career Advisor as part of the Career Services, student facing team
  • Hire, train, and supervise team of paraprofessional student Peer Advisors to conduct outreach to students, present on career related topics, and provide quick questions feedback on career issues.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals of supervisee, review position description, and monitor staff performance, providing timely feedback.
  • Represent the CDC to the campus community and related audiences such as prospective parents and families, alumni and others, and set an example of connecting the CDC with underrepresented students.
  • Assist with the office's employer outreach activities, plan and participate in employer site visits, and stay up to date on employment trends and career development issues.
  • Remain current with industry trends and the changing employment marketplace, best practices in career development for students and alumni, and emerging STEM fields.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field, Master's degree preferred, 3 plus years of related experience.
  • Supervisory experience, and the ability to lead a team of peers in generating and implementing new strategies and initiatives, providing excellent customer service.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and / or commitment to do so as an employee of WPI
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with campus community and external constituents at all levels, excellent presentation skills for large and small groups.
  • Understanding of the role higher education plays in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion, and facilitation skills to engage students, staff, and faculty in supporting the CDC's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Analytical skills needed to design and administer surveys, collect data, generate reports, and present and interpret results using sound statistical methods for a range of audiences.
  • Experience with educational programs and services for diverse student populations including first-generation, international, LGBTQIA and multicultural students.
  • Technical proficiency with or demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools, such as CRM's, on-line recruiting systems, databases, spreadsheets, and the like.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, ability to work independently and adapt to change in the workplace. Sound judgment, decision-making skills and leadership ability.
  • Availability to work some evening and weekend hours to support office initiatives. Some day and overnight travel may be required.
