Salary: $14 - $21 / hour

Job Summary

The Trauma Specialist is responsible for actively engaging and supervision of emotionally disturbed adolescents or individuals that engage in challenging behaviors, with a history of trauma, in a residential setting.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in and contributes to the therapeutic environment to ensure the safety and well-being of all clients.
  • Assist in creating and organizing an optimal residential environment including setting up schedules, routines, and work spaces.
  • Attends and completes all training, including specific trauma training.
  • Assists in the development of individual treatment goals and strategies; communicates ideas/progress to team.
  • Participates in departmental staff meetings and individual supervision.
  • Oversee the effective operation of milieu-related activities ensuring client safety and participation, as well as supporting clients in adhering to the program and housing guidelines and expectations.
  • Model appropriate interpersonal relationships, emotional regulation and boundaries
  • Utilize de-escalating techniques, active listening skills, and provide a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements
  • Complete reports that clearly and concisely summarize client’s well-being.
  • Relates to clients and family members in a manner that reflects an awareness of respect for individual variances including cognitive and developmental functioning, as well as social behavior, familial, religious, cultural, and ethnic differences.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of clients and their families/guardians.
  • Participates as a member of the program’s interdisciplinary treatment team, contributes information regarding client progress in relation to the individual’s well being
  • May be requested to drive a program vehicle. If driving, must show proof of valid driver’s license and successfully complete Woods Services driver training program.
  • Provides supervision of client’s organization and care of clothing and personal belongings; conducts inventory procedures.
  • Supervises meal serving; facilitates appropriate mealtime social interactions. Supervises post-meal clean up and hygienic food storage.
  • Administers emergency first aid treatment (including CPR) and implements fire safety procedures in accordance with Woods’ policies and procedures.
  • Receives/provides relevant information (written and oral) regarding clients, milieu status and programming to/from successive shift staff.
  • Write reports and notes as assigned; Inputs and accesses information via Carelogic.
  • Participates in all program projects and activities.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Twelve or more college credits in psychology, social work, nursing, education, counseling, theology or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in children’s behavioral health; preferred experience in a trauma informed environment.
  • Ability to implement program guidelines, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
