POSITION OVERVIEW

Assemblers are responsible for assembling and fabricating the prepared components required to construct a pre-hung door unit. Two main components of the job are preparing the components for assembly and then assembling the unit in accordance to the specification provided on the work ticket. Assemblers typically receive detailed on the job training and, as their skills improve, are gradually assigned orders that are more complicated. All Assemblers work under the guidance of a Supervisor. To be successful, an Assembler must demonstrate high attention to detail, the skill to produce accurate work, and a commitment to working safely. Over time, assemblers should become proficient in a multitude of warehouse functions, and can move up to skilled assembler, assembler lead, assembler supervisor, and beyond.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Preparing the components of the job for assembly by:
  • Reading provided tickets that identify materials needed
  • Gathering prescribed materials from stock using hand trucks, rolling carts and forklifts (if certified)
  • Placing materials in designated area for assembly
  • Assembling the components of the job, which may include machining and/or assembling various millwork products such as exterior and interior door units:
  • Reading orders and identifying necessary modifications
  • Operating machinery that modifies the product (ex. chop saws)
  • Preparing the product for shipment by applying casing, sleeves, labels, etc.
  • Inspecting the overall quality and accuracy of assembled product throughout the assembly process
  • Repairing and disassembling returned or defective millwork to prepare it for resale or return to stock
  • Maintaining a clean production area free of debris and properly storing and securing work materials, hardware, tools and equipment
  • Performing routine maintenance on all tools used including cleaning, oiling, checking to ensure proper functioning, calibrating machines, checking measuring tool accuracy, and notifying a supervisor of larger repairs or malfunctions
  • Must be willing and able to be cross-trained and to handle all stations along the line
  • Working in a safe manner:
    • o Participating in all safety training and meetings
    • o Understanding and complying with the Company safety policy

TOOLS USED 'Include but are not limited to: chop saw, table saw, rip saw, hand saw; router, nail gun, screw gun, door machine, various pneumatic tools, and drills

EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • High School diploma or GED and one to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using weight measurements, volume, and distance.
  • Might require forklift certification, depending upon branch requirements.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to understand branch and industry standards in identification, measurement, repairs, replacements, and modification of products.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to feel, manipulate, or handle; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 75-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
