Wood Rodgers, a leading engineering consulting firm, is hiring an Assistant Planner to join our Planning Department located in Reno, NV. We have offices located in Nevada and California and the right candidate could be in any of our offices while working with the Reno team.

We believe planning involves all aspects of improving our communities from land development to transportation, parks and recreation to the environment. The ideal candidate will collaborate on both private development and public works projects. Our Team works on urban and suburban design projects, from concept to public approval. We work on a variety of public works projects including but not limited to land use and zoning, planning for all modes of transportation, parks and recreation, and various aspects of environmental planning.As part of the planning process our Team also collaborates and guides our clients through the public engagement process providing both in-person and virtual engagement opportunities.

What you’ll be doing

  • Site research and gathering of relevant regulatory documents.
  • Technical research, data gathering and analysis.
  • Work with Wood Rodgers GIS team on mapping and data analysis.
  • Create graphics and assemble presentations for clients and/or agencies.
  • Prepare conceptual site plans (desired, not required).
  • Complete application forms, letters, reports, and other planning documents.
  • Collaborate with the project team toward completion technical reports.
  • Coordinate with clients and attend project meetings.
  • Attend public hearings and workshops.

The Ante

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in City or Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or other degree applicable to the planning field.
  • 1-3 years of professional work experience in the field, or a related field.

What it takes

  • Excellent visualization and graphic skills.
  • Knowledge of urban planning, site design, land use and zoning, and or experience with transportation planning.
  • Experience with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, and 3D program (Sketchup, Revit, Rhino or other. AutoCAD experience a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in verbal and written form with staff, clients and agencies.
  • Experience with technical report writing.
  • Self-motivated to learn new skills and meet client deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
