Description

Position Summary:

The Bartender is responsible for preparing, mixing and serving drinks and beverages correctly to either customers directly or through serving staff. This position will work approximately 25 hours per week for 22-30 weeks during the summer. It includes weekdays and weekends, days and evenings.

Will also be expected to work in other Food & Beverage positions including, Banquet Bartender, Banquet Server and Beverage Cart.

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet customers and maintain professional customer interaction.
  • Make recommendations and answer all related inquiries.
  • Check identification of customers to verify they are of legal drinking age.
  • Take orders directly from customers or from serving staff.
  • Record drink orders accurately into the register system.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (in house or to-go) in accordance with standard recipes and follow policies and procedures of the Wood Dale Park District.
  • Slice fruit and prepare garnishes for drinks.
  • Up sell drink specials and food items to customers.
  • Respond promptly to requests from customers in a polite and professional manner.
  • Attempt to limit problems related to customers’ excessive drinking by following established procedures.
  • Process transactions and customer payments using the POS system.
  • Ensure clean glasses, bar equipment and working areas.
  • Comply with all health, safety and hygiene standards and policies.

Other Job Functions

  • Monitor and restock bar and cooler inventory.
  • Wipe down bar and liquor areas and equipment and take out all trash/bottles at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain a positive interaction and cooperation with Park District staff, the public and Facility patrons.
  • Perform the job in compliance with Park District policies.

Requirements of Work

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of standard drink recipes, spirits, wine and beer.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Able to reach and bend and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Basic knowledge of operating a computer.
  • Numeracy and cash-handling skills.
  • Wear appropriate Park District Apparel

Necessary Special Requirements

  • 21 years of age
  • BASSET certified
  • Food Handler certified
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Able to work flexible schedules

Position involves every day interaction with employees and customers -- hears grievances, reports them and assists with proper follow up.

Hours of work and Compensation

Hours would be based on needs of the facility. This could include morning, evening, weekends and holiday shifts.
