POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides courier support services to the Operating Room suites. Assists clinical personnel in moving patients to and from beds, stretchers, and tables while utilizing safe transfer techniques. Delivers specimens, equipment, schedules, etc. to all parts of the hospital. Maintains transportation equipment in clean and safe condition. May be required to run errands outside the facility on occasion. Provide routine manual services to assure clean, orderly and sanitary conditions in the operating room. To follow all directives and regulatory guidelines in the responsible areas. To be willing to be cross trained in different areas. To be flexible in your duties to accommodate the needs of the unit. To present yourself in a professional and friendly manner to patients, visitors, and fellow staff members. To follow all guidelines explained in the policies, procedures, and employee handbook.

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid Texas Drivers license preferred
• BLS/CPR certification must be completed within 60 days of hire.
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English preferred
• Prefer hospital experience

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

• No experience required, however, experience working in a hospital or health care setting is preferred.
• Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner.
• Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.

• Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.

• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Requires good communication and organizational skills.
• Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
• High degree of competency/experience in general.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
• Performs transport duties for the department as necessary.
• Promptly responds to overhead pages for positioning or cleaning help in the operating room suites.
• Maintains a well organized and safe environment of care by clearing halls of beds, wheelchairs, linen carts, monitoring devices and reporting non-compliance.
• Cleans and services the operating room suites when necessary.
• Mops and scrubs the floors in the operating room suites when necessary.
• Empties and disinfects trash receptacles
• Cleans all horizontal and vertical surfaces as needed
• Moves furniture
• Maintains housekeeping equipment and utility closets in a clean and orderly manner
• Adheres to internal controls established for department
• Cleans and disinfects all surgical / procedural areas
• Performs other duties as assigned
