Essential Job Duties:The AIS teacher must be a relationship-first educator who is expected to provide students with age-appropriate instruction designed to promote the full development of students, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. Major responsibilities include: classroom management, data-driven targeted instruction, curriculum development based on specific objectives, long and short term lesson plan preparation, knowledge of subject material, student evaluation, development and maintenance of parent/teacher and student/teacher relationships, participation in professional development activities and contribution to building and charter-wide educational programs and goals.
Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is designed to help students meet state standards through a tiered intervention approach.
AIS supports the core program by taking a diagnostic approach to reinforce skills taught across the curriculum and identifies learning gaps and deficits. The AIS teacher can support the student by providing pull-out services, meeting with individual teachers and students, and creating additional opportunities to receive support within the Learning Center.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff
  • Participate in monthly department meetings
  • Work with individual departments on cross-curricular skills; vertical/horizontal alignment
  • Collaborate and meet regularly with the Student Support Team and other Learning Center Teacher to discuss students' academic histories and review appropriate AIS services
  • Monitor student progress and frequently communicate with Parents/ Guardians
  • Prepare students for classroom exams and/or Regents exams, when appropriate
