At the WMU Paper Pilot Plant, we host clients from around the world and help the with their paper making, coating, molded fiber, and paper recycling research and development. We are looking for another teammate to add to our excellent staff of professional operators. Every week is different here. Operators need to be able to run equipment (paper machine, coater, stock prep), troubleshoot and help clients run successful trials, and maintain the equipment as needed. Willing to train the right mechanically minded person. Are you:

• Mechanically inclined
• Able to tear apart pumps, agitators, gear boxes, replace parts, rebuild
• Pull bearings, belt shieves, couplings, drive shafts
• Possible experience with Preventative Maintenance (lubrication, bearings, etc)
• Can read machine schematic blueprints, Instrumentation/Electrical Drawings
• Experience with electrial issues, fuses, PLC, instrumentation.

Major Duties

- Provides customer service to internal and external clients. Assists clients with materials, chemicals and process additions. Provides information and instruction on equipment/instrument operations. Coordinates incoming /outgoing shipments.

- Performs routine maintenance on Pilot Plant equipment and performs housekeeping functions. Maintains the receiving, storage and shipping areas.

- Operates a variety of equipment, including: paper machines, coater, rewinder, and beater room/stock preparation.

- Troubleshoots and improves processes to ensure customer satisfaction.

- Provides instruction on material handling, processes operations, and equipment use to faculty, staff, and students. Trains new Pilot Plant Operators on plant operations and the use of various equipment.

- Supervises students who assist with running machinery.

Minimum Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Two year's relevant experience.

- Knowledge of the paper-making and/or coating processes.

- Flexibility to work evening shifts to support projects as needed.

Desired Qualifications

- Three to five years of experience in paper machine or paper coating experience.

- Strong basic math skills and basic chemistry knowledge
