Wissahickon School District is Hiring a Staff Nurse (RN/LPN) Near Ambler, PA

Position Title: Staff Nurse (RN/LPN)

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Pennsylvania license as a Registered Nurse or Pennsylvania license as a Practical Nurse
  • Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
  • At least three (3) years experience in a health care environment, preferably with some orthopedic experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate effectively with children and their parents and coaching staff
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors

Principal Functions:

To assist the Certified School Nurse in providing health services to the District’s school-age children and to tend to the emergency health needs of the District’s Middle School PIAA athletic program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the maintenance of student health records and all required reports: 1. Document office visits, medications, health conditions, and progress notes in current student information system. 2. Other Clerical Tasks: Send, collect and file permission forms related to health care; File all forms in student health records; Assist with the collection of data for immunization audits and verify the immunization of all students; Verify that each student has a health record on file; Complete the clerical tasks for medical/dental examinations and screenings.
  • Administer first-aid care to students, staff and visitors in accordance with the standing orders from the District’s medical advisors. Complete and record required information regarding care given.
  • Assist in completing the basic required yearly screening of measuring and weighing each student and advising the Certified School Nurse of those students who have significant weight fluctuation.
  • In an emergency situation, contact the parent/guardian and call an ambulance in accordance with the standing orders of the District’s medical advisors and the Certified School Nurse.
  • Maintain Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification.
  • Administer medications in accordance with school district policies, procedures, and standing orders as approved by the District’s medical advisor and the Board of School Directors and maintain records of those medications administered so long as; Proper parental/guardian authorization has been submitted to the Certified School Nurse and is being maintained in the student’s medical file; The Certified School Nurse is available for consultation in the dispensing of the medication.
  • Maintain and assure the confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the health of students and staff.
  • Maintain an orderly Health Room, including, but not limited to, the desk area and all bulletin boards.
  • Participate in staff development programs as required by the Nursing Coordinator, Building Principal, and/or Certified School Nurse.
  • Attend school-sponsored field trips as requested by the Nursing Coordinator.
  • Assess illness, chronic health conditions, and sports related injuries during Middle School home games and practices.
  • Educate athletes on proper hydration, nutrition, sleep, and injury prevention.
  • Maintain team assigned first aid kits, including emergency medications for athletes.
  • Monitor athletes’ injuries and recovery process.
  • Provide emergency first aid including CPR/AED and choking interventions.
  • Contact assigned CSN, Faculty Manager and/or Principal when the health problem exceeds routine handling.
  • Perform such other duties consistent with the position as may be designated by the CSN, Nursing Department Coordinator, Principal or Director of Student Services.Wissahickon School District is an equal opportunity employment, educational and service organization.
