Description

We are seeking Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistants - NP/PAs to join our team at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC! You will be given the opportunity to make a meaningful and personal contribution to the lives of truly special and deserving people - our Veterans!

About VA Fayetteville Coastal Healthcare System: The Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Health Care provides health care services to approximately 80,000 Veterans in a 19-county area of southeastern North Carolina. Our facilities include the Fayetteville VA Medical Center, two health care centers—one in Fayetteville and one in Wilmington, 9 outpatient clinics. The VA Fayetteville Coastal Healthcare System provides you with exceptional care that improves the health and well-being of Veterans. Our teams work in an integrated environment that supports learning, discovery, and continuous improvement. 

Duties:

  • Performs and records history and physical examinations and records date from clinic visits. Enters progress notes in CPRS and completes required encounters in a timely manner as per hospital policy.
  • Orders diagnostic tests, medications, laboratory tests and consultations as is medically relevant for the patient. Interprets and applies findings to make a medical diagnosis and proper disposition of patient.
  • Determines medical assessment and develops treatment plans according to accepted medical standards.
  • Exhibits leadership in initiating changes in patient care programs based on current concepts, and findings from research, studies and best practices.
  • Prescribed medications including controlled substances according to approved formulary and in accordance with Federal and State Law and VHA Regulations.
  • Processes View alerts and all other patient notifications in a timely manner and addresses abnormal alert values per hospital policy. Do not allow view alerts and other notifications to exceed accumulation of more than 100.
  • Educates patients and employees concerning medical conditions and recommended treatment. Specific topics include Whole Health , general health behaviors, medical reconciliation, need for alcohol and smoking cessation, immunization recommendations, health screening tests and other preventative measures.
  • Performs approved procedures when indicated and approved by scope of practice.
  • Performs duties necessary to maintain the life of patients in their care. The procedures include resuscitative measures such as Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule: 40-hour tours with variable hours and days

Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

• All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

• You may be required to serve a probationary period.

• Subject to background/security investigation.

• Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.

• Must pass pre-employment physical examination.

• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

• Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details.

Basic Requirements:

• English Language Proficiency - proficient in basic written and spoken English.

• Graduate of a school of professional nursing 

• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
