The Department of Health Services (DHS) Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC) is recruiting to fill two (2) Adult Basic Education Teacher vacancies.

These positions will work Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM.

WRC is a secure treatment facility that specializes in treating individuals with severe mental health conditions from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. This facility is located on Lake Winnebago with beautiful walking paths by the lake for employees to use during break periods. WRC is part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS). Pay for these positions is between $27.00 and $33.86 per hour (approximately between $56,100 and $70,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Add-on pay up to an additional $2.97 per hour is available for relevant educational credits that are above those required for certification. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in pay schedule and range 13/04.

All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher with at least 20 semester credits in a single academic area (i.e., Math, Reading, English/Communications, Science, or Social Studies) AND 3 credits* of Reading Instruction or Teaching Methods. Note: The 3 credits of Reading Instruction or Teaching Methods may be completed within the first year of employment. *In lieu of 3 credits of Reading Instruction or Teaching Methods, a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience may be considered.

OR

• Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license in Special Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education in a core academic area (i.e., Math, Science, English/Communications, Reading, Social Studies, or Technical Education). Note: This does not include Health, Art, Music, or Physical Education.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

• Experience providing education or training on academic skills and GED/HSED preparation.
• Experience participating in cooperative teaching programs with other departments or units (e.g., therapeutic services, clinical services, social services, unit staff, etc.).
• Training or experience using classroom management techniques for students with special needs, emotional/behavioral issues, or mental illness.
• Experience writing or working with Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) including special education certification.
