These positions can work remotely up to 5 days per week but may be required to report to an office location on occasion to complete certain tasks. Positions can be headquartered at our Central Office or any of our regional offices.

Position Summary

The Information Security Section (ISS) serves the department by creating an information security culture and enabling the business. We are metrics minded, employee focused, and view security as a service. ISS is responsible for:

  • Identifying and continuously assessing risk.
  • Developing institutionalizing, and improving strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Limiting the potential effects of information security events.
  • The selection, assessment, authorization, and monitoring of security controls while contributing to the overall information security plan.

Both positions will work with other program owners to engage customers and continuously improve the service ISS provides. They serve as advisors to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), their deputies, and other leaders to ensure the department maintains acceptable levels of risk.

Information Security Training & Awareness Program Owner

You will lead efforts to develop and execute the department’s security awareness and training program to create a security-focused culture at DHS integrating security into people, processes, and technology.

Portfolio Management Program Owner

Your primary focus will be to integrate information security into DHS programs and information systems through collaborative customer service. As the team leader of ISS’s security liaison staff, you will assign work requests, monitor for timeliness, and promote collaboration to reduce complexity.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $50.00 and $58.19 per hour or appointment max at the time of appointment (approximately between $104,000 and $121,000 per year), depending on experience and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are classified as IS Technical Services Consultant/Administrators and are in pay schedule and range 07-32. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.

Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience either using project management principles to accomplish an outcome or balancing multiple projects simultaneously to support a program.
  • Experience delivering information security program services (e.g., security awareness and training, security project and portfolio management, governance, etc.).
  • Experience translating technical IS security information into non-technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Experience as an IT program lead (or similar role).

In addition, highly qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience developing technical training (using principles of adult learning or instructional design) or experience designing security processes and procedures that are easy to understand and follow.
  • Experience leading the development, maintenance, and improvement of an information security awareness program or project portfolio management program.
  • Experience managing projects of various sizes and complexity through the entire project life cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in information security compliance and audit program management/development based on established industry standards (e.g., NIST SP800-53 (Rev 4 or Rev 5), CMS: MARS-E, IRS: Pub 1075, CJIS, etc.).
