Job Description: Micro-Surfacing Paver Driver

We are seeking a dependable and skilled Micro-Surfacing Paver Driver to join our team. The base of operations for this position is located in Birmingham, AL but the person in this position is not required to live in Birmingham. This is primarily a travel position, so we are flexible about living locations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining straight lines during paving operations, ensuring the quality and appearance of the centerline. This position requires a high level of attention, skill, and the ability to work collaboratively with the paver operator and other team members to achieve smooth and precise micro-surfacing applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive the micro-surfacing paver with a focus on maintaining straight and even lines during paving operations.
• Endure long days with sustained attention to detail to prevent wavy and unsightly centerlines.
• Develop a strong rapport with the paver operator, working together seamlessly to achieve optimal results.
• Double-check the hopper operations, ensuring valves are open or closed, hoses are properly connected, and pumps are activated during loading.
• Communicate with the hopper operator, providing necessary checks when hooking and unhooking trucks, preventing issues like overfilling with aggregate.
• Utilize hand signals to communicate adjustments needed to truck drivers during paving operations.
• Sound the signal horn to alert the paver operator of obstacles or potential hazards before they occur.
• Maintain the front hitch on the paver, ensuring cleanliness and free-flowing rollers, while oiling slides and arms regularly.
• Check and maintain the chains and clevis integrity on the front hitch.
• Collaborate with the hopper operator to attach and detach the belly pan under the front hopper each morning and evening for effective removal of fines buildup.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Micro-Surfacing Paver Driver in a construction or paving environment.
• Excellent attention span and ability to maintain focus during long working hours.
• Skilled in driving and maintaining straight lines on a paver machine.
• Strong communication skills, using both hand signals and verbal communication with team members and truck drivers.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with the paver operator, hopper guy, and other team members.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to achieving high-quality micro-surfacing results.
• Mechanical aptitude to perform routine maintenance on the front hitch, including cleaning, oiling, and checking chains.
• Physical capability to handle the attachment and removal of the belly pan with a two-person operation.

The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
