Job Description: Asphalt Plant Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a skilled and detailed-oriented Asphalt Plant Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of our asphalt plant equipment, contributing to the production of high-quality asphalt products. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on asphalt plant equipment, including but not limited to crushers, conveyors, dryers, screens, mixers, and silos.
  • Conduct inspections to identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, electrical malfunctions, and other equipment failures.
  • Diagnose problems and implement corrective actions promptly to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation of the plant.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks according to schedule, such as lubrication, filter changes, belt adjustments, and alignment checks.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Coordinate with the production team to schedule maintenance activities during planned downtime periods to minimize disruptions to asphalt production.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors as needed for specialized repairs, parts procurement, or equipment upgrades.
  • Always adhere to safety protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior maintenance staff as required, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to asphalt plant equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanical or electrical fields is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician in an asphalt plant or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex machinery.
  • Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to understand equipment specifications and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools, precision instruments, and diagnostic equipment used in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with team members, supervisors, and external partners.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing process enhancements.
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed to support plant operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Comfort working in outdoor environments and exposure to various weather conditions, noise levels, and airborne particles.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
