JOB DESCRIPTION

The Electrical Technician and Licensed Water Operator will work on the HVAC Building Management Computer System and will assist in maintaining the overall performance of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, communications, pneumatic controls, and HVAC systems. They will assist in the planning and performance of preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on various building systems as directed by the MEP Supervisor and MEP Assistant Supervisor. They will learn the idiosyncrasies of the buildings and facilities systems at Winterthur and how to maintain and/or upgrade the building systems. They will assist in the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, and aid in continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. This position also serves as a backup licensed water operator for the potable water plant.

Compensation: $25.30/hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday with rotating weekends

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the installation, troubleshooting & repair of HVAC building systems. Assist with troubleshooting pneumatic & integrated software systems. Maintain and repair pumps, fans & motors. Assist MM II/III in performing maintenance and service repairs on heating, pneumatics, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Aid in installing new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines.
  2. Assist in maintaining electrical systems. Assist in inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment.
  3. Aid in maintaining domestic water systems. Assist with the on-site sewerage treatment plant and maintain the associated pumping equipment. Assist in inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining plumbing fixtures in the heating, water, and drainage systems.
  4. Assist in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing data and communication systems, equipment and cabling on computer networking, telephone, security, and other related voice-data systems in buildings. Assist in upgrading wiring in existing buildings.
  5. Set up for special events. This involves setting up Audio & Electrical components for special events, such as weddings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with 3 years of experience in the facilities maintenance and/or construction field with an emphasis on the HVAC, water, plumbing, electrical & building system controls.

Preferred Experience: Completion of a trade school program or mechanical maintenance apprenticeship, with 5 years’ experience or working knowledge with HVAC building systems. Experience in facilities maintenance that uses work order system that involves planning /scheduling and predictive/preventative maintenance programs

Knowledge/Skills

  1. Familiar with confined space safety equipment and capable of climbing ladders, lifting, and carrying fifty pounds.
  2. Ability to implement planned maintenance programs.
  3. The applicant must be able to recognize possible asbestos conditions and bring it to the attention of his or her supervisor.
  4. Ability to perform troubleshooting and emergency repairs to various building systems. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  5. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
  6. Familiar with applied plumbing and electrical codes.
  7. Good customer service skills.

Essential Functions

  1. Valid driver’s license with ability to complete Defensive driving course.
  2. Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding.
  3. Work frequently involves being outside in mud, snow, rain, hot and humid conditions.
  4. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  5. Exposure to paints, lubricants, dust, dirt.
  6. Will be working at times at the wastewater and potable water plants and working around harmful substances with frequent exposure to loud noises. Must use appropriate PPE.
