General Duties: The Lift Mechanic II is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of all lifts, the lift maintenance facility, and associated equipment and machinery. Work primarily occurs outdoors or onsite for each individual chairlift throughout Whitefish Mountain Resort. Lift Maintenance has workshops located in the Village area and adjacent to the upper terminal of Chair 1.

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to: Lift Maintenance Manager
  • Employees Supervised: None
    Interrelationships:
  • Cooperates and collaborates with all lift maintenance staff.
  • Works closely with other departments including Wood Shop, Building Maintenance, Ski Patrol, Lift Operations, Events & Recreation, and mountain business partners.

Job Specifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of mechanical experience.
  • Aerial ropeway mechanical/electrical experience required.
  • Comfortable working at heights up to 100 feet, prioritizing safety.
  • Ability to operate or be trained to operate a snowmobile and/or track vehicles safely.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and authorization for WSI insurance coverage.
  • Must provide personal hand tools.
  • Understanding of basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic functions.
  • Provides high-level customer service to guests.
  • Works within the framework of company and department policies and procedures.

Specific Duties: The Lift Mechanic II's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing lift terminal service and adjustments, scheduled or for troubleshooting/repair.
  • Conducting line machinery service and adjustment as required.
  • Participating in lift construction projects as directed.
  • Refurbishing lift towers or structures through sanding, painting, or other means.
  • Rebuilding machinery as part of scheduled maintenance or repair needs.
  • Assisting Level III mechanics with hi and low voltage wiring.
  • Performing welding and cutting torch operations.
  • Completing tasks assigned by the Lift Maintenance Manager, including cleanup after projects.
  • Supporting other departments by operating lifts in the absence of lift operations staff.
  • Documenting all repairs and maintenance completed on lifts daily.

Safety:

  • Adheres to and promotes safety policies and procedures related to lift operation and maintenance.
  • Wears personal protective equipment as required.
  • Operates fire suppression equipment as necessary.

Safety & Wellness: All team members must maintain constant alertness for unsafe conditions and behaviors. Periodic inspections of work and public areas are conducted to ensure safety.

Work Environment:

  • Involves moderate physical activity handling objects up to 30 to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent climbing of lift towers under extreme weather conditions.
  • Utilizes proper safety harness procedures for working on elevated tower platforms.
  • Performs maintenance tasks in small spaces, high places, and awkward body postures regularly.
  • Receives ongoing fire training, basic first-aid, and CPR training.
  • Drives company vehicles as part of daily duties.
  • Requires flexibility in schedule changes, including short notice for overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and peak demand times.
  • Conducts outdoor work in varying weather conditions, often extreme.
  • Maintains a non-smoking environment.
