Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is Hiring a High School Social Studies Teacher, Pathway Promise Program- Part-Time Near Winston, NC

This part-time position begins in January, 2024. The schedule is 2:30 pm - 8:00 pm. Serves 50 students at the Kingswood School. Flexible schedule.
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The high school social studies teacher for the Pathway Promise Program (P3) is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for students attending the dropout prevention program and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in law and policy. The program serves students in need of credits towards graduation in a non-traditional setting. The P3 program serves marginalized and vulnerable students who may be experiencing homelessness, be at-risk of dropping out, have attendance concerns, need to work to support a family, or be experiencing other barriers to graduation. This position is part-time for the 2023-24 school year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design the academic (basic) education program consistent with the district's total educational philosophy.
  • Continue professional growth through educational meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas with district staff.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and other departments to plan and develop the instructional program.
  • Prepare educational plans for students based on individually assessed needs in accordance with the district's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Use appropriate assessment instruments to assess student progress.
  • Prepare lesson plans for each class assigned.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Provide varied instructional techniques and media through individual and/or group sessions designed to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of the students.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and

  • Assist in upholding and enforcing program rules, administrative regulations, and school board policies.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Ensure that each student has required evaluation records in his/her permanent folder.
  • Supply progress reports to school personnel and to parents of students as necessary and requested.
  • Complete appropriate reports for local, state, federal and educational agencies.
  • Refer students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community agencies.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings or other meetings as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to plan and deliver effective instruction using evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and electronic formats, as well as in-person.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion when dealing with students and/or parents and their personal and educational needs.
  • Skill in identifying student learning and personal needs and collaborating with district and school staff to provide needed resources or interventions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Preferred: Two or more years of work experience
  • Preferred: Multilingual
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must hold or be able to hold NC teacher licensure in content area
