Trade and Industrial Teacher: Automotive Services

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to teach high school students to develop knowledge and skills in vehicle system diagnosis, repair and/or replacement of components of automobiles. Instructional topics are aligned to the ASE Education Foundation Maintenance and Light Repair certification standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop and implement instructional plans and activities in the automotive laboratory for vehicle servicing, testing, diagnosis and repair of brakes, electrical systems, drivetrain, engine, HVAC and steering and suspension from basic to advanced skill levels.

· Instruct and demonstrate proper safety practices, procedures, and standards in automotive shop setting.

· Collaborates with school staff and businesses on the development of appropriate work-based learning opportunities such as internships and apprenticeships.

· Build positive relationships with students by providing meaningful and current instruction and by individualizing programs.

· Create and plan effective curriculum-based projects and activities correlated with ASE Education Foundation Maintenance and Light Repair task lists to prepare students for the appropriate ASE Entry-Level Certification tests: Maintenance and Light Repair, Brakes and Electrical/Electronic Systems.

· Perform routine maintenance of equipment and tools used in the program.

· Manage inventory control including purchasing materials, supplies, equipment, and tools.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of ASE Education Foundation Maintenance and Light Repair, Brakes and Electrical/Electronic Systems, and Steering and Suspension Task Lists.

· Up-to-date knowledge and technical skills required to prepare students for employment in the automotive industry.

· Ability to service, diagnose and replace and/or repair components of automobiles.

· Expertise in data and problem analysis, creative thinking, collaboration, and problem solving.

· Demonstrated proficiency in creating and delivering task demonstrations.

· Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.

· Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, Internet, spreadsheet, word processing and related applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· Minimum: Must meet one of the following education and work experience combinations:

o HS Diploma/GED with six (6) years related work experience within the past ten (10) years.

o Associate degree in related field (Automotive Systems Technology or Transportation Systems Technology) with four (4) years related work experience within the past eight (8) years.

o Bachelor’s degree in related field (Automotive Systems Technology or Transportation Systems Technology) with two (2) years related work experience within the past five (5) years.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

· Hold 74015 Trade and Industrial Automotive Service License or be eligible for an 74015 Trade and Industrial Automotive Service License with an appropriate degree, work experience, and required certifications.

· Hold all the following prior to teaching: ASE Brakes, Electrical, Maintenance and Light Repair, Suspension and Steering.
