Purpose for the Position:

To perform duties to maintain kitchen work areas and restaurant equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition.

Essential Functions:

1. Sweeps and mops floors.
2. Washes worktables, walls refrigerators, and meat blocks.
3. Segregates and removes trash and garbage and places it in designated containers.
4. Steam Cleans or hoses out garbage cans.
5. Sorts bottles, and breaks disposable ones in bottle crushing machine.
6. Washes pots, pans and trays by hand.
7. Scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them by hand or places them in racks or on a conveyor to dishwashing machine.
8. Polishes silver, using burnishing-machine tumbler, chemical dip, buffing wheel, and hand cloth.
9. Holds inverted glasses over revolving brushes to clean inside surfaces.
10. Transfers supplies and equipment between storage and work areas by hand or by use if a hand truck.
11. Sets up banquet tables.
12. Washes and peels vegetable using knife or peeling machine.
13. All other duties as assigned by a manager or supervisor.

Physical Demands: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists from 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

Environmental Conditions: Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. A job is considered inside if the worker spends approximately 75 percent or more of the time inside.

Extremes of Heat Plus Temperature Changes: Extremes of heat: Temperature sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort unless the worker is provided with exceptional protection. Temperature Changes: Variations in temperature, which are sufficiently marked and abrupt to cause noticeable bodily reactions.

Wet and Humid: Wet: Contact with water or other liquids. Humid: Atmospheric condition with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.

Hazards: Situations in which the individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury.

Reasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job. Some, but not necessarily all, areas mentioned in this section will be included in this job.

Reasoning Development: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

Mathematical Development: Add and subtract two digit numbers. Multiply and divide 10’s and 100’s by 2,3,4, and 5. Perform the four basic arithmetic operations with coins and as part of a dollar. Perform operations with units such as cup, pint, and quart; inch, foot and yard; or ounce and pound.

Language Development: Reading: Recognize meaning of 2,500 words (two or three syllable) words. Read at a rate of 95 120 words per minute. Compare similarities and differences between words and between series or numbers.

Writing: Print simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and series of numbers, names and addresses.

Speaking: Speak simple sentences. Using normal word order, and present and past tenses.

Relationships to Data, People and Things:

Data: Comparing: Judging the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

People: Taking instructions helping: Helping applies to non-learning helpers. No variety of implicit wishes of people is involved in this function.

Things: Handling: Using body members, hand tools or special devises to work, move, or carry objects or materials. Involves little or no latitude for judgment with regard to attainment of standards or in selecting appropriate tool, object or material.

Specific Vocational Preparation:

Specific Vocational Preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of: vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the-job training, or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher job or serving in other jobs.
