Job Position: Lead PackerJob Location: Mount Sterling, OH
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Shift: 1stBase Pay: $17.00Job Summary:Responsible for assisting shift supervision and Quality Auditors in production of quality product, printed and packed properly on assigned shift to assure that packaging is performed to established SOP’s and quality standards.
Packer Responsibilities:
  • Under the direction of the shift supervisor, monitors lid packing area to ensure packers are adhering to safety, sanitation & quality requirements.
  • Checks material supplies (boxes, bags, tape, etc.) at the start of the shift. Assures required materials and supplies are requested and available at beginning of shift. Communicates directly with Material Handlers for materials needs.
  • Every two hours performs quality checks, both lid and Print, checks correct sleeve counts, correct boxes and/or labels, etc.
  • Routinely checks to see that the packers are not throwing away good product and not packing defective product.
  • Helps identify and determine causes for quality problems, equipment problems, and failure to meet production standards, etc. and communicates with maintenance personnel or shift supervisor.
  • Works closely with Quality Auditors to resolve quality problems.
  • Assists new employees on shifts in work assignments. Responsible to monitor and provide assistance in training all new (and temporary) employees in accordance with established training manual.
  • Makes sure all safety rules are being followed at all times.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and sanitation at all times.
  • Ensures that all necessary paperwork is maintained and turned in on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for tracking and clearing out production put on hold by Quality regardless of what shift produced.
  • Maintains good communication with shift Supervisor on production, quality and equipment problems as it relates to the packing area. Provides supervisor with feedback regarding employee relations issues.
  • Coordinates resources for the efficient operation of the lid packing area including but not limited to packer assignments, coverage for absences & rest periods, overtime requests, etc.
  • Must be able to perform all responsibilities of an Inspector/Packer as the Lead Packer may be assigned lines as needed.
  • Assists the shift Supervisor with running the shift and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs additional assignments and/or special projects that may require physical activity beyond those required functions of the job.
  • Maintains housekeeping standards by keeping a clean work area at all times.
  • Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor.
Skills:
  • 1 year experience as an Inspector/Packer
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) required.
  • Ability to operate and enter information in computerized inventory system skills a plus.
  • Ability to follow instructions, write legibly and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate in English in order to carry out instructions and communicate with others as needed.
  • Must be familiar with all products, equipment, printing, packaging methods, quality requirements and documentation.
  • Able to act as fill-in for shift Quality Auditor, if needed.

Employee may also have occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate. Safety requirements for this position are safety glasses, hearing protection, and hair / beard net.
