District Job Description

Position Title: Cheerleading Coach

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Principal and Athletic Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive Cheerleader techniques to prepare them for events or competition.

Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

JOB DUTIES:

Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets.

Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.

Assesses skills and assigns team positions.

Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.

Works with the Athletic Director and/or Principal in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. 

Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 

Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. 

Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times. 

Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met. 

Follows established procedures in the event of an injury. 

Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student. 

Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.

Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.

Acts as a team representative and promotes the cheerleading by communicating with partnerships and other organizations. Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms. 

Participates in special activities.

Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.

Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Responsible for program recruitment and flyers.

Evaluate programs on a continual basis and ensure programs/activities respond to member needs.

Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:

Two year degree in related field from an accredited college or university, OR equivalent experience. 

A minimum of two years of work experience.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. 

Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.

Manage 20-30 students in a team and competition aspect.

Able to run routine practices 3 times a week to strengthen cheer numbers, dances, and build on new showcase skills for high school setting. 

Able to incorporate different levels of skillsets within a team so that everyone is included in routines. 

Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications. 

The coach will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Athletic Director.
