JOB SUMMARY

The Housekeeping Supervisor, reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of residential units and public areas in order to present a good image to the public. The Supervisor assists the Manager in the supervision and training of housekeeping staff and assumes a leadership role in the Manager’s absence. The Supervisor serves as a Housekeeper when assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist the Manager in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing the day to day functions of Housekeeping programs and activities

Provides leadership and guidance to staff members to ensure that assignments are carried out promptly and correctly.

Conducts routine and random inspections of residential units to ensure tasks are performed properly and thoroughly and reports deficiencies to the Manager for action

Assists the Manager with interviewing applicants for open positions in Housekeeping

Provides orientation and training to new employees including training on Worxhub

Assists the Manager with purchasing and stocking supplies and equipment for Housekeeping 

Inspects storage rooms and utility/janitorial closets for upkeep and supply control; restocks items in appropriate storage areas; notifies the Manager of supply needs; distributes supplies to the staff on a daily basis

Coordinates housekeeping services and activities with other departments

Attends committee meetings, staff meetings, and walk-throughs in the absence of the Manager

Monitors staff for professionalism, cleanliness, and adherence to Williamsburg Landing’s standards and policies; monitors and encourages Housekeepers’ positive interactions with residents, guests, and other employees

Assigns work orders to Housekeepers and reassigns daily tasks to floating staff in Worxhub

Performs general housekeeping and laundry tasks as needed

Evaluates work processes and methods, staffing levels, training needs, and equipment, and submits recommendations for continuous performance improvement

Ensures that staff receives training to meet mandated standards, that develops their professional abilities, and that prepares them for advancement opportunities

Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required; two years’ experience as a Housekeeper; ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

General knowledge of housekeeping practices and procedures; practical knowledge of housekeeping supplies and equipment; general knowledge of supervisory principles and practices; ability to train, schedule, and discipline staff members; ability to respond to special resident needs when required; general knowledge of infection control and sanitation procedures and practices.; general knowledge of laundry policies, procedures, and practices; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team. Able to exercise sound professional judgment. Able to respond appropriately in an emergency; ability to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds; ability to climb step ladders and reach overhead to perform cleaning procedures; ability to stoop, kneel, lean over, and climb stairs frequently
