Williams Plumbing / Williams Civil Construction is Hiring a Civil Construction Estimator Near Bozeman, MT

Join Williams Civil Construction as an Estimator! You will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs, preparing bids and proposals, and providing valuable insights to support decision-making processes. Your expertise in cost estimation, construction methods, and industry trends will be instrumental in helping Williams Civil Construction secure and execute successful projects.

About Williams: Williams is the Northwest's leading specialty civil contractor. From federal to state to private contracts, we do what we do best: we build Montana. Hospitals. Schools. Roads. Housing. We’ve laid 400 miles of pipe and counting. We're agile enough for fast-paced construction schedules, strong enough to move mountains. We take pride in our crews. We work together. Mud, rain, or snow, we get the job done.

What You'll Do:

  • Quantity Takeoff: Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings, specifications, and other project documents to quantify materials, quantities, and work items required for project execution.
  • Construction Methodology: Evaluate construction methods, techniques, and materials to determine the most efficient and cost-effective approaches for project execution, considering factors such as project scope, schedule, and site conditions.
  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor services, and overhead expenses, using industry-standard methodologies and software.
  • Bid & Proposal Preparation: Develop comprehensive bids and proposals for construction projects, incorporating cost estimates, project schedules, value engineering options, and other relevant information to present competitive and compelling submissions to clients.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Relations: Solicit bids from vendors and subcontractors, evaluate proposals, negotiate pricing and terms, and establish relationships to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze project costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities, value engineering alternatives, and risk factors to optimize project profitability while meeting quality and performance requirements.
  • Market Research: Stay abreast of market trends, industry benchmarks, and material prices to inform cost estimates and bid strategies, anticipating market fluctuations and potential impacts on project costs.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess project risks and uncertainties, including design changes, scope revisions, market volatility, and regulatory compliance issues, and develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies to manage risk exposure.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate and comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of bid documents, cost estimates, vendor/subcontractor proposals, and correspondence related to project pricing and procurement activities.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven experience (5 years preferred) as an estimator in the civil construction industry, with a track record of successfully estimating and bidding on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Proficiency in construction takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, HCSS HeavyBid) required and familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., AgTek, Carlson Takeoff) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs, cost calculations, and financial analyses.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques, including civil infrastructure, utilities, earthwork, concrete, paving, and structural elements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents accurately.
  • Time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and develop practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting construction estimating and bidding processes.
