When we do Friday surgeries we will need this to be one of the shifts. Availability at both our Hammond and Crown Point locations is a prerequisite. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides nursing care and service in Pre-Operative area, Recovery Room and Operating Room, evaluating, integrating and making nursing judgments pertaining to the patient’s condition on a routine and emergency basis. Assist with surgical procedures and circulating duties.

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Admit patient to Pre-Operative Area and review history and physical.
• Admit patient to Recovery Room and receive/review post-operative report.
• Set-up, operates and/or monitors the use of various systems, equipment and instrumentation required for the care of patients.
• Assists in the transportation, positioning and pre-operative preparation of patients.
• Review and initiate physician orders administering medications, parenteral fluids.
• Monitor and assess patient condition throughout pre-operative and post-operative period and report any unusual symptoms, occurrences, or discrepancies to supervisor, anesthesia and physician.
• Maintain accurate control of supplies and medication including appropriate records and documentation.
• Maintain nurse’s notes on the patient record.
• Provide instruction, information and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
• Maintain nurse’s notes on the patient record.
• Maintain Operating Room and Recovery Room and equipment in an aseptic and functional manner.
• Be willing to work at both locations

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.
• Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Indiana.
• Physically capable of positioning patients, transporting patients by cart or wheelchair, and lifting moving or transporting supplies, instruments and equipment within reasonable weight limits.
• CPR certified
• Surgical experience is a plus
