Description

Under the general supervision of the County Surveyor, the Survey Technician performs technical work, including field inspections, land surveys, and research in support of highway maintenance projects.

Examples of Duties

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Assists with field surveys and submits horizontal and vertical control information
  • Collects field data; enters and updates data in Trimble Business Center 
  • Performs field checks and staking of construction projects
  • Researches easements, documents, and landowner information
  • Responds to requests for maps and records
  • Assists with paving and construction project inspections
  • Communicates with contractors regarding construction projects
  • Maintains accurate daily diaries detailing construction activities 
  • Ensures survey vehicle is stocked with equipment to complete daily tasks
  • Ensures vehicles and equipment are well-maintained; reports any damage or issues immediately
  • Follows all traffic laws and safety regulations on roadways and work sites, reports safety hazards and traffic problems
  • Executes work as directed by the Staff Surveyor
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

Education, Experience and License/Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D AND one (1) year surveying or transportation construction work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Supplemental Information

Special Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office setting and an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
  • Some work is performed on construction sites with exposure to uneven ground, loud noises, chemicals, and construction equipment
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs

 
Compensation: Compensation for this position is $28.56-$32.64 per hour depending on experience and training. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 11 paid holidays each year. All offers of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, background check and reference review.
