The Training Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Williams County Dispatch Center training program.

Examples of Duties

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Develops, coordinates, and monitors the training program for new and existing staff
  • Ensures the training program follows federal, state, local, and other applicable regulations and standards
  • Facilitates compliance by tracking and maintaining certifications and comprehensive training records
  • Evaluates the existing training program, identifies opportunities for improvement, and implements approved changes
  • Oversees the Communications Training Officer (CTO) and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) programs
  • Creates new training plans by identifying programs to meet organizational needs
  • Organizes and conducts training sessions
  • Maintains current knowledge of training techniques, developments, and best practices
  • Assists in the recruitment and onboarding process in coordination with Human Resources
  • Assists in completing quality assurance/quality improvement review
  • Assists in the development of public safety policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Assists with 911 Telecommunicator duties in crucial situations 
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years experience as a public safety dispatcher
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Must receive satisfactory results from a medical and psychological exam
  • Must possess or obtain within one (1) year of start date a valid APCO Basic 40-hour Telecommunicator Certification, APCO Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification, American Heart Association or National Safety Council CPR and First Aid Certifications, NCIC Full Access License, APCO Customer Service in Today’s Public Safety Communications Certification, and APCO Surviving Stress Certification

Special Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Intense concentration and prolonged attentiveness are required during emergency communications interaction with distraught or abusive individuals

Compensation: Starting Salary ranges from $30.00-$34.00/hour depending on experience and trainingWilliams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 12 paid holidays each year.
