William Carey University is Hiring an International Student Representative Near Hattiesburg, MS

Job Summary

The International Student Representative will assist with all functions of the Office of International Student Affairs including the recruitment and retention of international students, data entry for international admissions applications and supporting documents, and the issuance of the Form I-20 for F-1 international students. The Advisor will serve as a DSO for SEVIS. The Advisor will also assist with international scholarships, international student employment, and international student orientation. Additionally, the Advisor will assist the Director of International Student Affairs with providing support, guidance, and resources to international students at all degree levels (undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, et. al) to maintain their student status.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) for the Study and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and report to Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) on all activities conducted in SEVIS.
  • Assist international applicants at all degree levels (undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, et. al) through the admission process, including the collection and processing of all required admissions’ documents.
  • Contact prospects and new applicants (undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, et. al) by phone, email, and text to collect and correct information, and transition students from prospects to enrolled students.
  • Assist current international students (undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, et. al) in various international services that support the student in maintaining his/her legal non-immigrant status in the United States (i.e. airport transportation, obtaining a Mississippi I.D. and/or driver’s license, Curricular Practical Training, Optional Practical Training, etc.)
  • Assist the Director of International Student Affairs with planning and implementing yearly international events and compliance milestones (i.e. International Student Orientation, International Welcome Back, International Tax Workshop, etc.).
  • Assist with annual and weekly maintenance of e-Learning platforms to provide current guidance for international students on immigration policies and university requirements, including updates and changes.
  • Research and identify new support programs to implement for current international students (undergraduate, graduate, WCUCOM, et. al) to retain and better serve the international student community.
  • Identify new avenues for international student recruitment and assist with international student recruitment.
  • Perform other tasks as deemed necessary for the operation of the Office of International Student Affairs.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, and to use standard office equipment
  • Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds to assist with luggage and events.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to use common office productivity software.
  • Ability to learn to use CAMS and Blackbaud Enrollment Management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and people.
  • Ability to adhere to Federal Regulations and maintain compliance.
  • Ability to obtain clearance for SEVIS administration as DSO.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to be covered under university driver’s insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Prior experience in a customer service setting
  • Prior experience with individuals whose first language is not English
  • Bachelor’s Degree
