Position Summary

The Maintenance Repair Worker performs skilled journeyman level work to repair University buildings, equipment, and fixtures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Practices and encourages Facilities Management workplace expectations.

Learn and use the BAS (Building Automation System) to troubleshoot and remediate building HVAC and lighting problems.

Participates in preventive maintenance programs.

May be required to be certified and perform the following functions; a)Test, rebuild, and replace backflow prevention devices, b) maintain swimming pools and fountains, c) maintenance level asbestos abatement.

Troubleshoots and repairs kitchen equipment, air handlers, circulating pumps, sump pumps, sewage ejectors, condensate pumps, cooling towers, boiler equipment, AC equipment, pneumatic and DDC controls, and other University equipment and fixtures as directed.

Overhauls pumps and air compressors.

Maintains and repairs air-handling units, filters, bearings, dampers, sheaves, etc.

Uses the proper meters, measuring equipment and test equipment to maintain strict tolerances required for proper operation and equipment life.

Must be able to perform plumbing and plumbing repairs.

Replaces bearings in electrical motors, pumps, air handlers, and other equipment as needed.

Responds to fire alarms and other emergencies.

Estimates time and material required for assigned jobs.

Other maintenance related duties as assigned.

Subject to after-hours callback for emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have at least a minimum of 4 years of experience involving skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings, plant equipment and / or commercial kitchen equipment repair.

Heating, cooling and closed loop water treatment experience desired OR any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Extensive and proficient use of a personal computer and software programs such as Word, Excel or any specialized applications desired.

Keyboarding, email and maintaining database's required.

Possession of a valid Oregon driver's license and satisfactory driving record or ability to obtain one within 60 days of date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

High school education preferred.

Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet applications, and database programs.

Ability to work in a fast paced team oriented environment, valuing all people and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

The ability to effectively interact with a variety of people in a manner that emphasizes strong customer service and portrays the University's programs, personnel, and philosophies in a positive manner.

Familiarity with Maintenance terminology / operations.

Accurate and efficient keyboard skills.

Have excellent telephone skills and the ability to operate two way radio equipment

Must possess excellent skills in business English and basic business math.

Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students.

Possession of backflow testing, certified pool operator, or asbestos worker certification.

Any other certifications such a CSD-1, EPA refrigeration certification, BME or LME, CL1, 2 or 3 Boiler certifications or any Building Operator Certification.

Typical Work Schedule

7 : 30am - 4pm, Monday-Friday

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Involves exposure to adverse environmental conditions as may be found working in a facilities setting which may include but is not limited to;

working outdoors in inclement weather, extreme temperatures, noise, dim lighting, dust, dirt, confined spaces, high elevations, bio-hazards and other hazardous materials.

Salary : $24.57 / hour
