Wage Range: $82K-$110K

JOB SUMMARY

The Systems Engineer is a hands-on IT leader primarily responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the technical environment that operates major 24/7 business systems. In addition, the System Engineer directly leads and supervises the Systems team, while also assisting in leading and supporting the larger IT team. The Systems team mission is to “Build, backup, and deliver a reliable private cloud for the business”. The System Engineer is the mission leader with a technical focus on managing business applications, virtualization, storage, and backups. The System Engineer is responsible for organizing their direct reports, as well as coordinating with the Service Desk, Network, and Security teams to manage business systems and systems infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents, and manage large multi-disciplinary technical projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Lead, motivate, mentor, and supervise Systems team members. Develop effective relationships, direct and delegate tasks, train subordinates, enforce policies and procedures, conduct counseling, and review of employees.
  2. Plan, install, and deliver IT enterprise business applications. Balance system requirements, including performance and redundancy against constraints such as available computing resources, complexity, and budget.
  3. Plan, configure, and maintain a reliable and secure private cloud to operate enterprise business applications.
  4. Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance, considering business requirements, budgets, processes, stakeholders, end users, and vendors.
  5. Liaise with vendors for the procurement of new systems technologies, oversee installation, and resolve installation or integration issues.
  6. Troubleshoot incidents and problems with applications, databases, servers, storage systems, and any other incidents as assigned.
  7. Ensure backups of system configurations, databases, file systems, virtual machines, and volumes operate on a planned schedule with recordkeeping. Ensure maintenance of on-site and off-site libraries of backups.
  8. Document system design and configurations in centrally accessible repositories. Lead department in developing documented and repeatable IT processes.
  9. Monitor overall system performance and availability, detecting faults, identifying performance problems, and tracking trends.
  10. Work closely with the service desk, network, and security teams to troubleshoot incidents, resolve issues, and plan and execute projects.
  11. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of technology procurement and development efforts.
  12. Occasionally receive and respond to mission-critical alerts and potential IT outages outside of business hours.
  13. Adhere to established policies, procedures, regulations, codes, and applicable laws.
  14. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field and four (4) years applicable experience, or five (5) years of applicable system administration and problem-solving experience in the IT field.
  2. Supervisory skills, especially but not limited to, building and motivating teams, developing effective relationships, directing and delegating tasks, training subordinates, enforcing policies and procedures, counseling and reviewing employees.
  3. Strong organizational skills, exposure to project management, and managing simultaneous and competing responsibilities.
  4. Project management skills, including planning deliverables and milestones, resources, timelines, and work breakdowns.
  5. Understanding of networking services such as: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, ACLs, Routing, Virtual Networking.
  6. Hands-on experience with enterprise virtualized environments such as VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent Type 1 hypervisors.
  7. Hands-on experience with enterprise storage systems such as Pure, Nimble, NetApp, or EMC, or equivalent SAN/NAS systems.
  8. Extensive experience with Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and Active Directory.
  9. Understanding of backup and restore best practices, such as backup rotation schemes, full/differential/incremental backups, managing SQL database backups, and managing virtual machine backups.
  10. Hands-on experience with enterprise data protection tools such as Commvault, Veeam, or equivalent enterprise systems.
  11. Understanding of system design, with experience in planning application, backup, and storage systems that meet given requirements.
  12. Understanding of IT security and experience with security planning, configuring, auditing, testing, and reporting.
  13. Will work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as assigned, to meet deadlines, correct system failures, and organize and direct resolutions to incidents and system outages.
  14. Experience in a team-oriented collaborative environment and compliance with personal hygiene and dress code requirements.
  15. Excellent written and oral communication skills, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  16. Highly self-motivated and able to pay keen attention to detail.
  17. Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  18. Sit for long periods at a computer station using the repetitive motion of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; perform routine office duties including bending, lifting, maneuvering up to 25 lbs., good auditory acuity to converse directly, in a group and over the phone; good voice tone to relay information; and to walk through adverse conditions (smoke/noise in the casino) and weather between building locations.
  19. Requires a High Security Gaming License clearance.
  20. Must be at least 21 years of age.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. PowerShell, Python, or other scripting experience.
  2. Azure/M365 certifications or relevant experience.
  3. SCCM certifications or experience.
  4. MCSA/MCSE certifications.
