Alignment & Brake Mechanic

Department: Wilbert’s Tires 

Reports To:General Manager & Team Lead 

Status:Non-Exempt

Description:Performs alignments and repairs on a wide variety of commercial and passenger vehicles to maximize safe, efficient, and productive operations according to manufacturer recommended specifications. 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Perform alignments on commercial and passenger vehicles.

• Diagnoses tire wear issues.

• Performs repairs and maintenance on vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations with typical repairs including but not limited to: routine maintenance, alignments, brakes, suspension components, and tires.

• Reads and interprets vehicle condition reports and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or vehicle owners for clarification of problems, and discusses preventive techniques with vehicle owners to minimize future repairs.

• Demonstrates knowledge of wheel alignments, suspension components and brake work.

• Completes paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounts for applied times with work order times versus time card times.*

• Responsible for fabrication and welding repairs.

• Follows all safety policies and procedures.

• Removes and properly disposes of fluids including oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, power brake fluid, gasoline, diesel, and antifreeze.

• Maintains tools and equipment and regularly inspects for problems.

• Keeps work area clean and safe at all times.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience or knowledge in the automotive industry.

Certificates and Licenses:

Forklift certification. Training and certification available. New York State Vehicle Inspector License. Company sponsored education provided.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and talk or hear. While doing this job the employee will be primarily on their feet for long periods of time. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. For heavier merchandise lifting devices and/or assistance is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions. This is a smoke free environment for safety reasons.
