Wieland is hiring a Quality Manager. The Quality Manager will be responsible for managing, facilitating and deploying the Quality Management Systems and processes at the site. This role is located in Warwick, RI and will be fully on-site. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (15-25% travel). 

Responsibilities

Quality Manager Responsibilities:

  • Champion “Safety Excellence” by complying with all safety rules/processes, supporting the Safety Elements and driving the organization to utilize CI thinking to identify safety hazards and solve/sustain solutions to these hazards.
  • Coordinate the resolution of internal and external quality issues pertaining to defective vendor material.
  • Monitor incoming material and production to ensure quality is consistent and meets customer specifications.
  • Resolve customer complaints by implementing corrective and preventive actions through the application of problem-solving methods such as the 8D, 5Y and DOE methodologies.
  • Maintain all divisional quality system documentation in a controlled environment designed to ensure all divisional quality certification requirements are maintained.
  • Coordinate all internal auditing functions of the divisional quality system.
  • Develop inspection methods that will ensure incoming material conforms to customer and divisional specifications.
  • Engineer appropriate test procedures on new products to aid in the expansion of the sales market.
  • Schedule and review calibration and GR&R studies of all equipment used to measure critical characteristics of processed product.
  • Select qualified vendors to support calibration and testing requirements of divisional equipment.
  • Implement and maintain an approved calibration venders list and calibration acceptance tolerance requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate computer software to capture and analyze accurate quality data to assist in the evaluation of information and data.
  • Coordinate quality issues between customers, WMS, Rolled Products and Aluminum Mills to ensure consistent quality standards throughout all aspects of the WMS’s business functions.
  • Develop Quality staff through various training initiatives to expand knowledge and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate divisional management review meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes to all corporate and movement members.
  • Coordinate divisional strategic quality plans, record and distribute the plan to all corporate and management members.
  • Develop lean manufacturing productivity measuring methods and develop appropriate metrics. 
  • Provide engineering assistance to the sales, purchasing and marketing departments.
  • Make recommendations to Operations Manager regarding purchases of laboratory equipment in excess of grant of authority.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to resolve quality concerns.
  • Issue customer credits within grant of authority.
  • Manage personnel issues within the department with the assistance of the Operations Manager and Human Resources.
  • Build and maintain key professional relationships with Operations Manager, Inside Sales, Field Sales and Material Manger to accomplish key tasks such as gathering and evaluating information and ensuring coordination to accomplish objectives.
  • Command of ISO/QS standards and requirements
  • Ability to conduct multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to in regards to material certifications, PPAPs, GR&R studies, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans and defective materials report.
  • Lead and supervise Lab personnel in quality functions involving receipt of incoming material, fabrication order processing, testing, EPA data entry, vendor defective material, industry specification and calibration.
  • Ensure work is in compliance with WMS’s policies and professional standards. 
  • Meet or exceed WMS’s requirements relating to deadlines and attendance.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and management within areas of responsibility. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
  • Perform other duties/functions as directed by management.
  • Safety – Know and follow facility rules and policies. Report all hazardous conditions to Manager, Industrial Hygiene.

Quality Manager Qualifications:

  • Four Year College Degree or Equivalent - Four Year Mechanical Engineering Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of quality system experience in areas of conducting internal audits, developing 8D corrective actions, PPAP development, FMEA development, flow charting, control plan development, SPC analysis, and GR&R analysis.
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry and metallurgy.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Mathematics.
  • Strong computer skills including VB and Excel programming.
